Bahamas Bowl

BowlQuest getting a late start this year thanks to the late ending of the regular season, so two games on a Friday to kick things off including this tilt from a mostly empty stadium in the Bahamas.

Just a reminder of the rules of BowlQuest, of which there are two. I have to watch one live quarter of every game.  In the event I cannot watch a game, one of my two sons can one watch a live quarter. Now that my sons are 25 and 21, they really don't look forward to this foolishness, although I didn't need them once last year.

Buffalo vs. Charlotte

I'm watching this one from work, my last day before taking some time off.  The first quarter was watched with Marty Bender, another programmer in the building.  He at least feigned interest in my journey to watch all the games but checked out after the first quarter.

Not much to see here, Buffalo took an early lead and Charlotte threw in a few second half scores to keep it a little interesting. The finish got a bit testy as the 49ers were still trying to score with a few seconds left. After rolling out for a final play, a Buffalo player caught the 49ers quarterback and body slammed him to the turf.  While he's not pleased with the outcome, former Charlotte student (not an alumni) and professional wrestler Matt Hardy may have been impressed.

Buffalo 31  Charlotte 9

My pick:  Buffalo, record 1-0.

My bet:  New for this version of BowlQuest, I'm making a small bet on every game just to keep it interesting.  $5 on the under at 54.5 points. Winner.

Game Notes:

While Buffalo has been one of the better programs in the MAC, I know nothing about Charlotte. Turns out their program is only six years old and they play in Conference USA. Famous Charlotte-UNC alumni include Clay Aiken.

It looks like Clay and Matt Hardy may get their hair done at the same salon.

What Did I Eat:  Nothing, just some water in the air studio.

Bowl Swag:  board shorts, Yeti Rambler bottle, towel, pin, string backpack. Pretty weak, although the players did get a free trip to the Bahamas.

The bowl sponsor, Makers Wanted, is an industrial park in suburban Chicago.
