Bowl Game Six Pack
A really long day of flipping from game to game including checking three NFL games. The pros and bowls don't usually mix together except for the first Saturday of bowl season.
New Mexico Bowl - San Diego State vs. Central Michigan
Caught this one through halfway into the second quarter and checked back in occasionally. Disappointing effort by the Chips.
Aztecs 48 Chippewas 11 - my pick San Diego State
Cure Bowl - Liberty vs. Georgia Southern
Flipped here as it started, stayed for the required quarter. At least this game is for a good cause.
Liberty 23 Georgia Southern 16 - my pick, Georgia Southern
In week one of the season, Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze needed back surgery and coached the team from a hospital bed.
Sometimes sports is stupid.
Boca Raton Bowl - Florida Atlantic vs. Southern Methodist.
I picked this one up for the second quarter. The Mustangs looked disinterested while FAU was playing without head coach Lane Kiffin who left for the Ole Miss program.
FAU 52 SMU 28 - my pick, SMU. Not going so hot out of the gate.
Camellia Bowl - Arkansas State vs. Florida International
Another game I caught up with in the second quarter. These games all overlapped in the afternoon. I think the New Mexico Bowl was still going on.
Arkansas State 34 FIU 26 - my pick, Arkansas State.
Las Vegas Bowl - Washington vs. No. 19 Boise State
A night game so I got on board for the first quarter. Boise State was surprisingly flat. Boring game.
Washington 38 Boise State 7- my pick, Washington
New Orleans Bowl - No. 20 Appalachian State vs. UAB
I finished up the games watching this one on a tiny TV at Par's Place with my sons.
Par's is the closest bar to the house and we were there on music trivia night. We arrived too late to play. Par's has some pretty good wings and lots of beers on tap.
Appalachian State got off to a slow start but methodically came back and pulled it out. Exhausted from football watching, I fell asleep during this one. Back at home, not at Par's.
App State 31 UAB 17 - my pick, App State. 4-2 on the day and 5-3 for bowl season.
Game Notes
-What did I eat: Through the day, some jalapeno kettle chips, Tex-Mex snack mix and wings at Par's. Nothing healthy but I didn't overdo it too much.
-My wagering was not great and I'm questioning continuing this for 31 more games.. These games are harder to pick spreads for than the regular season. You never know what version of a team will show up, how motivated they'll be, coaching changes, player suspensions, who lost the dance off the day prior to the game, etc.
No bowl games today, all NFL. BowlQuest resumes with the Gasparilla Bowl Monday.
