Gasparilla Bowl
Ah, the Monday before Christmas, with some time off on a working vacation and one bowl game in the middle of the afternoon. It's like these games were created just for gamblers.
Central Florida vs. Marshall
Bad Boy Mowers is back for another go around as the sponsor of this often sponsored game in Tampa that used to be played in the Rays ball park but is now in the Buccaneers stadium.
With a 2:30pm start, it gave me time to run some usual pre-Christmas errands like going to the liquor store and taking Son No. 2 out to lunch. The Party Source in Newport was hopping and then we had lunch at the Hofbrauhaus.
This is one of the places I love, great beer and food. I've never had a bad time there. But football, right. We were back home in plenty of time for me to catch the first quarter and then take a German food induced nap in the second quarter. Marshall turned the ball over frequently and UCF capitalized. Marshall was the home team and it looked like Jameis Winston was controlling this game. If you don't follow the NFL, Jameis throws a lot of interceptions.
UCF scored 21 points in the first and third quarters, game over. This game took forever to play because of the scoring and a lot of penalties. While not close geographically, a lot of players from Florida are on both teams and there are "beefs" that lead to a bunch of penalties and one ejection. "Beefs" are stupid, get over yourself.
Central Florida 48 Marshall 25
My pick: UCF, record improves to 6-3.
My bet: UCF -16. Winner but still haven't recovered from Saturday's losses.
Game Notes
-UCF Quarterback Dylan Gabriel is left handed and it's weird to see a lefty playing that position. Evidently receivers don't like catching the ball from a lefty because they're not used to the spiral in the other direction.
-This game was a big postseason step back for UCF after playing in the Peach Bowl and Fiesta Bowl the last two years. Nice to see it didn't bother them and they played hard enough for the win. Looking at you SMU.
-What Did I Eat: Nothing, after lunch at the Hofbrauhaus I didn't need anything.
-Bowl Swag: Gift suite. It would be great if every player got a Bad Boy mower but at about $12,000 list price I don't think that's happening.
Not only does it mow, it destroys the dreams of your enemies.
One game on Christmas Eve, the Hawaii Bowl.
