The one with the Bigfoot story

Back where I started this year's journey, watching bowl games at work. I had the Birmingham Bowl yesterday and the game in Idaho today. Since Idaho is Bigfoot country I thought I'd share my "encounter" story for anyone who hasn't heard it, which I thought was most people I knew.

But first...

Ohio vs. Nevada

Normally this game is on the first couple days of bowl season but the compressed schedule moves it to January 3rd in the middle of the afternoon.

Ohio's run based attack was enough to hold off Nevada's air game. Nevada did mount a comeback in the 4th quarter including a poorly timed trick play in the red zone that resulted in a turnover.

Ohio 30  Nevada 21

My pick: Nevada, record now 27-11

My bet:  I'm terrible at betting, misread the spread and took a loss with Ohio -10. A pro gambler I am not.

Game Notes

Fun facts!

Not sure how it's "fun" but Germans eat a lot of potatoes.

What Did I Eat:  Nothing, I was at work.

Bowl Swag:  Gift suite, Thule Achiever computer backpack, Herschel Supply Co. hip pack, beanie, coin.

Now, the Bigfoot story.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I've had a fascination with Bigfoot since I was a kid thanks to the TV show In Search Of hosted and narrated by Leonard Nimoy.

If you have 20 minutes, this is the episode that had me sold. When Nimoy narrates and you're 11, you believe it. It spurred my interest in the other creatures of In Search Of lore, the Yeti, Loch Ness monster, the reasonable non-argumentative ESPN football analyst.

Fast forward to 2004, late May and I'm enjoying a cocktail on my patio on a beautiful late afternoon. We live alongside a greenbelt and out of nowhere there was a distinct animal-like shrieking sound from the belt. After a few moments, that sound again a few more times. It was something I never heard so of course my first thought is Bigfoot.

Doing some internet research I found numerous accounts of Bigfoot encounters in southwest Ohio, some in Butler County, close to where I live. Some accounts were visual, some audible like mine. Next step, reach out the BFRO.

I emailed the person listed for my area of Ohio and heard back quickly. The person and I agreed to meet at a Starbucks near where I worked downtown and I would listen to audio samples of other alleged Sasquatch.

The day comes and the BFRO guy was at the agreed upon Starbucks and I know realize this story sounds like I was meeting some black market organ buying network. But the guy was fine, had a laptop and a set of headphones for me to listen to the audio clips. He had five or six clips for me to listen to and the one I selected that was close to what I heard was a match for southwest Ohio.

We talked a bit about his encounters which also mostly were audio and agreed to stay in touch if I ever heard the sounds again. I have not. This video from Canada has audio that's close to what I heard.

That's it. If you ever hear or see something reach out to the BFRO.

The Armed Forces Bowl today and then some NFL playoff games.
